Police officers in a southern Michigan city are among the latest in line for body cameras.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports the Jackson City Council approved a $128,000 contract this week for equipment, licenses, media storage and warranties.

Officials had hoped to have them in place sooner, but a delay in grant funding pushed back the timeline.

The city is getting 42 body cameras, which would be enough to allow each officer to have one while on duty.

They'll be put into use in the coming months.

A number of other Michigan departments have been among those nationwide adding body cameras.
