Courtesy of Preston Brooks

“Big money is corrupting our political process.”

Those are the words of an Oakland County business owner and entrepreneur who, for the second time, is in the race to represent Michigan’s 8th Congressional district, which includes Lansing and East Lansing.

Preston Brooks is an Independent who says both the Democratic and Republican parties have failed the country because of the influence of money from large, special interests. In his effort, which the Clarkston resident announced on Monday, Brooks says he will not accept campaign money from PAC’s,special interests, organizations, corporations or lobbyists. The Stanford University engineering graduate retired from the U.S. Navy as a Captain after a 20-year career. He recently launched a new computer software company and also is an adjunct professor of  computer science at Oakland University.

Brooks says independent candidates like the fiscal responsibility of Republicans, but they also believe that Democrats have the right idea in that we're responsible for the most vulnerable in our society. They also join Libertarians in saying the government has no business being involved in social issues like women's health.
