Neighbors in Action: Citizen-activists take charge during Christmas power outage

Joe Linstroth/WKAR

Mid-Michigan has weathered two major winter storms in the last three weeks. It’s been widely reported that thousands of people who lost power following the December 21 ice storm found themselves with little or no reliable information about when or if their electricity was being restored. That prompted many citizens in the community to take it upon themselves to go looking for answers and to share what they found online. In today’s Neighbors in Action segment, we’re talking with two of those people. Dan Ryan lives in Lansing and Alice Dreger is a resident of East Lansing. Both spent a great deal of time on social media relaying critical information about the outage.

If you’d like to nominate someone or an organization to be featured on our Neighbors in Action segment, please send an email to Currentstate@wkar.org. Put “Neighbors in Action” in the subject line, or tweet us @KARCurrentState and tell us why you think they should be featured for the great work they do.
