Project explores self-esteem and beauty through selfies

Catie Bargerstock

Earlier this year, we spoke briefly with Donna Kaplowitz about the workshop “The Art of the Selfie: How Selfies Create Confidence.” The workshop encouraged young girls to explore their understanding of beauty and boost self esteem through selfies. The program is a collaboration between the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, the 60/50 Project and the East Lansing Public Library.

As part of the project, a gallery of the images created during the workshop will go on display. To learn more about the project and its exhibition, we spoke with Catie Bargerstock, an MSU student and mentor, and Emma Mcllhagga, an 8th-grader at MacDonald Middle School who participated in the workshop.
