"Let's Get Ready for Sparty!!!"

ITV

His name is synonymous with the sports of boxing and professional wrestling. Born and raised in Philly, Michael Buffer began his ring announcing career in 1982 and by 1984 he developed the catchphrase "Let's Get Ready to Rumble!!!" which gained enormous popularity.

Buffer's one of a kind work has led him to announce events like the World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Finals, and NFL playoff games. Many athletes have admired his work as well, including boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard, who once said "When Buffer introduces a fighter, it makes him want to fight."

Buffer joined WKAR's Al Martin on "Current Sports" this week to reflect on his career and provide thoughts on the state of boxing today, as well as the new "Rocky" spin-off entitled "Creed"...which Buffer is also featured in.

Every WKAR News story you read is rooted in fact-based, local journalism, produced without commercial influence and available for free to everyone in mid-Michigan. No paywalls. Ever.

But this work doesn’t fund itself. With significant cuts to federal funding, public media is facing a critical moment. If you believe in journalism that serves the public interest, now is the time to act. Donate today.
