Chris Frey gained 25 yards for a first down on a fake punt to keep a Spartan drive alive against Ohio State.

The MSU football and men’s basketball teams were both involved in nail-biters over the weekend. One Spartan squad lost, while the other wiped its brow in victory. Current Sports host Al Martin helps us recap those barn-burners, as well as update us on the Detroit Lions win against Jacksonville.

There are no moral victories in sports, but the MSU football team can’t be too disappointed in the way they competed against the number two college football team in the nation on Saturday afternoon. The 3-8 Spartans were defeated by just one point by the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Speaking of one point, the MSU men’s basketball was also involved in a nail-biter last night against Florida Gulf Coast. They squeaked out a 78-77 win over FGCU at the Breslin Center in a game that many didn’t expect to be close.

Current Sports host Al Martin joins us to recap those two games and to look at the Detroit Lions, who are streaking with two straight wins!

Al Martin is the host of Beyond the Score, a new series coming to WKAR in the fall of 2024. Al is also sports reporter for WKAR news.
