BOP (harvey) is one of the Lansing area’s most popular bands ever. After a decade and a half apart, they’re playing together again and will appear at the Common Ground Music Festival on Tuesday.

Verdehr Trio celebrates 40th anniversary

For 40 years, Walter and Elsa Verdehr have made up two-thirds of the Verdehr Trio. They’ve been joined by a number of pianists over the years. Silvia Roederer has been the third member for the last 15 years. During that time, their repertoire has included hundreds of pieces that were specially commissioned for violin, clarinet and piano.

The Ann Arbor Summer Festival bills itself as "an international arts gathering." Events are indoors and outdoors over the next three weeks. It will be a good time for everybody -- kids, music lovers, film buffs and even public radio fans. Current State’s Scott Pohl spoke with Robb Woulfe about the 30th Ann Arbor Summer Festival. Woulfe has been the festival’s executive and artistic director for nine years.

The Ann Arbor Film Festival is underway. Most of the events are at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor.

Now into its fifty-first year, the festival has long been a showcase for makers of independent and experimental films.

Current State’s Scott Pohl spoke with program director David Dinnell about the festival’s history and a couple of this year’s highlights.

Sunday is the biggest night of the year for movie lovers. Hollywood honors the best movies of 2012, with Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor and Actress, and more. Who deserves to win, and is that likely to be different from who will?

At the iconic Motown Museum in Detroit, a new exhibit honors the "girl groups" of the 1960's. It's called "Girl Groups: The Grit, The Glamour, The Glory".

Included are records, photos and memorabilia from all of the groups you remember…and one you probably never heard of.

The exhibition remembers The Supremes, The Marvelettes, the Vandellas, and a proficient group of background singers known as The Andantes.

When people think of  Michigan's economy, their minds likely don't turn to art.

However, a new report may get Michigan's creative sector a second look. The non-profit organization ArtServe released its second annual “Creative State Michigan” study last week. The report suggests that creative and cultural enterprises have a positive effect on the state’s economy.
