Tea Party plans Mich. rallies opposing Rep. Stupak

By AP

UNDATED –

Tea Party activists will be targeting Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak for defeat during a series of rallies in Michigan this week.

Tea Party Express gatherings are scheduled for Thursday in Ironwood, Friday in Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie, and Saturday in Cheboygan and Petoskey. Other rallies are planned outside Stupak's district in cities such as Lansing, Grand Rapids and Detroit.

Stupak has drawn criticism from Tea Party activists since helping provide crucial votes for overhauling the nation's health care system.

In a news release Tuesday, the organization said three people running to unseat the Menominee Democrat would attend the rallies.

Also expected are celebrities including actor Jimmy Labriola, who starred on the television program "Home Improvement."
