Eviction threat for suburban Detroit movie studio

By AP

ALLEN PARK, MI –

Hundreds of Allen Park residents and others gathered last summer for a celebration at the site of what they hoped would become a big, successful Michigan movie studio.

That groundbreaking ceremony featured a lot of smiling faces and much praise for Unity Studios President Jimmy Lifton.

Now, eight-and-a-half months later, things have gone in the wrong direction for the once-promising partnership.

The Detroit Free Press reports Tuesday that Allen Park is threatening to evict Unity Studios from its city-owned facilities.

The newspaper says Lifton has failed to make rent payments to the city and hasn't produced required documents outlining the venture's financial condition.

A message seeking comment was left for a Unity Studios spokesman.
