MSU art historian publishes book on notable local architecture

MSU Art History professor Susan Bandes has written a book on notable Lansing-area architecture called “Mid-Michigan Modern From Frank Lloyd Wright to Googie.” Current State’s Scott Pohl talks with Bandes about this period in Michigan design.

MSU art history professor Susan Bandes has spent several years learning about notable architecture in East Lansing from the middle of the 20th century. Now, her work has become a coffee table book from the MSU Press.

This project started in 2012 during the planning stages of an exhibition at Cranbrook. Later, Bandes had students help with researching local architecture from this period, and she curated an exhibit at the MSU Museum. Now comes this book. On October 22nd, there will be a tour of some beautiful homes in Okemos.

Current State's Scott Pohl talked with Susan Bandes about “Mid-Michigan Modern From Frank Lloyd Wright to Googie.”

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
