It’s hard to tell with all the new snow, but we’re three weeks away from  the “Crosstown Showdown” home opener between the Lansing Lugnuts and the MSU Spartans. Yesterday, Lugnuts owner Tom Dickson and city leaders announced plans for a $22-million development at Cooley Law School Stadium. The project would add a mix of residential and retail units near the stadium’s outfield, as well as major upgrades within the stadium. Pending approval from the city council, Lansing will pay half the cost through a bond issue.

Current State’s Kevin Lavery spoke with Michigan State University economist Eric Scorsone, a member of the team that’s monitoring the city’s financial health. He thinks the project is a good step towards strong financial health.

Kevin Lavery served as a general assignment reporter and occasional local host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered before retiring in 2023.
