Neighbors in Action: Islamic Center of East Lansing

The Islamic Center of East Lansing was one of several places across the country to receive a hate letter last week. They responded with a respectful reply. For Neighbors in Action, we speak to Dr. Abdalmajid Katranji and Farah Khalil of the Islamic Center to find out what opportunities they have to learn and to volunteer.

Since the election, there have been incidents of hatred against marginalized groups, and the Lansing area has not been immune. Last week, a hate letter was sent to Muslim organizations across the country, including the Islamic Center of East Lansing. It said things like Muslims are evil and Trump is going to deport you, among other things.

The Islamic Center wrote a peaceful, public reply to the letter. Representatives of the Center say that the hate letter does not reflect the Lansing community, which has always been very supportive and positive.

For Neighbors in Action, we talk with Dr. Abdalmajid Katranji and Farah Khalil of the Islamic Center.
