MSU students MacKenzie Mrla (left) and Siaira Milroy are co-organizing the march in support of survivors of sexual assault.

It’s been another extraordinary day at Michigan State University (Friday)...and it’s not over yet.

Less than 48 hours after the resignation of former MSU president Lou Anna Simon, athletic director Mark Hollis announced his retirement, effective January 31.  Meanwhile, the university board of trustees has named its secretary, Bill Beekman, as Michigan State University Interim President.

Tonight (Friday, Jan. 26), hundreds are expected to gather at the Rock on the MSU campus to show their support  for sexual assault survivors...and to call on the university to make immediate changes.

The march was originally planned days ago to call for Simon’s resignation.  But as co-organizers Siaira Milroy and MacKenzie Mrla told WKAR’s Kevin Lavery...that was really never the focus.

Kevin Lavery served as a general assignment reporter and occasional local host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered before retiring in 2023.
