This week's sentencing of Larry Nassar was closely followed by the resignaation of MSU President Lou Anna Simon.

Michigan State University Trustees will work on a plan Friday to select an interim president following Lou Anna Simon’s resignation.

The board faces an important decision when it comes to picking an interim president for MSU. In light of the criticism they have faced for the handling of the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal, Simon’s successor will be tasked with healing wounds and righting the ship while a permanent leader is sought.

The names of three former governors of Michigan have emerged as possibilities, including Republican John Engler and Democrats Jim Blanchard and Jennifer Granholm. Mark Murray has also been mentioned; he’s a former president of Grand Valley State University.

The public meeting in the MSU Administration Building is set to begin at 1 p.m. Friday.

Scott Pohl is a general assignment news reporter and produces news features and interviews. He is also an alternate local host on NPR's "Morning Edition."
