East Lansing Defeats Haslett to Win District Championship
The defense of the East Lansing Trojans held the Haslett Vikings off all game. An early touchdown by the Trojans propelled them to 14-3 win.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The East Lansing Trojans looked confident all game as they defeated the Haslett Vikings 14-3 in the CAAC Blue district championship at home. This was East Lansing's first district title since 2011. The Trojans defense was outstanding, as they held the Vikings to only three points all game. After and early touchdown by the Trojans in the first quarter, the Vikings responded with a 27-yard field goal with 9:36 left to play in the half. The kick grazed the upright, but squeaked in making the score 7-3. With 1:06 left to play, Blake Underwood took it to the house for East Lansing, but his touchdown was called back due to an illegal blocking call against the Trojans.
Triston Klusack proved that the Trojans defense is a force to be reckoned with. With 6:39 left to play in the fourth quarter, he recovered a Haslett fumble on the Vikings' 21-yard line. But, the Trojans weren't done fighting yet. With 1:58 left to go, East Lansing's defense sacked Haslett's quarterback and 26 seconds later, Jamar Mills pushed his way into the end zone to score the final points of the night to secure the East lansing win.
East Lansing won 14-3, earning the Division 3 district championship. East Lansing's record is now 9-2 and they will play Battle Creek Harper Creek next week in the regional final.
