Interim MSU President John Engler has begun the process of revoking the tenure of former College of Osteopathic Medicine Dean William Strampel. Strampel stepped down for medical reasons in December, but remains on the faculty.
Strampel has been criticized for his handling of allegations against Larry Nassar, the former MSU sports medicine doctor who will serve lengthy prison terms for child pornography and sexual assaults.

In a request sent today to the Office of the Provost by Vice President and Special Counsel to the President Carol Viventi today, Engler says Strampel “did not act with the level of professionalism we expect from individuals who hold senior leadership positions, particularly in a position that involves student and patient safety.”

To dismiss a tenured faculty member, a faculty hearing committee will have to find that cause exists to revoke tenure.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
