Michigan State University has canceled the 2019 Homecoming Parade due to stormy weather that is expected in the area late Friday afternoon. The decision was reached around 1:30 p.m.
National Weather Service in Grand Rapids predicted scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and
especially tonight in the Lansing area.
Locally heavy rainfall of up to two inches tonight could lead to some minor flooding. A marginal risk of severe weather also exists tonight, with the primary threat being large hail.
Dozens of entries were expected to march in the annual parade. This year's grand marshal is MSU alum and HGTV co-founder Susan Packard.
Forecasters believe the weather should be fine for Saturday's homecoming game.
