Governor Rick Snyder appears to be skeptical of the state House leader’s road funding ideas.
The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports.
State House Speaker Kevin Cotter could introduce legislation as soon as this week to boost road funding. He told reporters last week he won’t put forward a plan that relies mostly on raising taxes.
But Governor Snyder says he doesn’t see that kind of money for roads in the existing budget.
“To get to a billion dollars-plus, it’s hard to do without saying you need new revenues,” he says.
Snyder says ideas to tap restricted pools of money in the budget and economic development funds will likely fall short.
