HIV rates high, awareness could improve in Ingham County

Outside of metro Detroit, Ingham County has the highest rate of HIV infection in Michigan. Over half those cases are among gay men, most of whom are first diagnosed with HIV after the age of 30.Todd Heywood, a senior reporter for the American Independent News Network, and Dwayne Riley, the prevention coordinator for the Lansing Area AIDS Network, joined Current State to discuss the impact, awareness and stigma of HIV and AIDS in Ingham County. Heywood says one in five identified cases in Ingham County are in people between the ages of 13 and 24.
