EL crowds celebrate despite NCAA loss

By Mark Bashore, WKAR

EAST LANSING, MI –

Police were arresting some members of a large crowd of young people who gathered in East Lansing's Cedar Village neighborhood late Saturday night. The throng formed after Michigan State's loss earlier in the evening in the semi-final game of the NCAA basketball tournament. WKAR's Kevin Lavery reports the situation was not out of control, as police in riot gear were out in force. Media reports of the estimated size of the crowd varied widely.

Young people in East Lansing appeared to be in a mood to celebrate another successful basketball season for the hometown Michigan State Spartans, despite Saturday night's loss. Other media and on-line reports suggest the situation was not out of control despite groups of people on the streets.
