Heat hits mid-90s for 2nd day; homeless woman dead

By AP

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, MI – Temperatures have pushed into the mid-90s across much of Michigan for a second straight day and have claimed the life of a homeless woman in suburban Detroit.

Waterford Township police say they got a call from a man who found a 56-year-old woman lying next to her car in a parking lot about 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office tells the Detroit Free Press the unidentified woman died of hyperthermia.

The heat has driven thousands of people to cool off in pools, lakes and rivers or hole up behind the shelter of air conditioning.

The National Weather Service says temperatures hit 95 degrees Monday at Mount Clemens and Troy. That followed Fourth of July highs of 93 at Monroe and Troy.
