LANSING, MI – Many state employees may soon be offered retirement incentives similar to the ones offered to teachers earlier this year.
Lawmakers at the state Capitol are discussing a retirement plan, but it's unclear how quickly they will reach an agreement.
Republican state Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop says it's hard to get things done in Lansing when lawmakers are out campaigning for the upcoming primary election.
"I want to believe that they understand the need, the immediacy, of this reform," Bishop says. "But I do know that politics play a role, and I'm not going to be blind to that."
Fewer teachers than expected took the retirement deal offered a few months ago. Many teachers say the offer wasn't as sweet as lawmakers claimed.
