EAST LANSING, MI –

East Lansing has a new mayor.

The city council has voted three-to-two to promote mayor pro-tem Diane Goddeeris to the mayor's post. She succeeds Victor Loomis, who remains on the council.

Goddeeris praised Loomis, saying he has "the highest integrity."

"It's important for the community to see that as one person leaves, that the city council continues on," Goddeeris says. "The city manager is our rock. We're players that keep moving, and for us to each be out there in that visibility role is a good thing."

Goddeeris says the council now needs to make progress is hiring a new city manager.

Having won last week's city council election, Goddeeris, Nathan Triplett and Don Power were sworn into office.

The council chose Triplett to serve as mayor pro-tem.
