DETROIT –
Lawyers for two jailed Ambassador Bridge executives are trying again to win their release at the Michigan appeals court.
A three-judge panel turned down the request Thursday night after attorneys cited the wrong law. The case has been refiled.
Bridge owner Manuel "Matty" Moroun and bridge company executive Dan Stamper were sent to jail Thursday as punishment for the company being found in contempt of court. The dispute centers on a major construction project that is supposed to connect the international bridge to area interstates.
Stamper and the 84-year-old Moroun want to be released while a full appeal can be pursued.
Wayne County Judge Prentis Edwards says Detroit International Bridge Co. repeatedly failed to follow his orders to work with the state of Michigan and get the Gateway Project done.
