The House of Promise is a faith-based nonprofit that provides survivors of sex abuse and sex trafficking unconditional love, acceptance, and a place to heal. For this week’s Neighbors in Action, we speak with president and founder Shari Montgomery.
Sex trafficking has been a serious problem in Michigan, and the recent prostitution charges against Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III have brought the issue into the spotlight once again. Michigan has been ranked fifth in the number of girls being sold into sex slavery, with estimates of over 100 girls being lured into the trade per month.
Right now, the opportunities for girls and women to become victims outweigh the opportunities for them to find safety and support. But Shari Montgomery, founder of the House of Promise, wants to change that.
The House of Promise is a Lansing non-profit that seeks to be a safe haven for girls ages 12 to 22 who have been victims of trafficking or sexual abuse. Their goal is to disrupt the patterns of slavery through education and care for the survivors.
