WKAR Advanced Screening of "T-Rex: Her Fight for Gold"

WKAR
Nearly 100 Flint residents came out to Berston Field House to watch an advanced screening of "T-Rex: Her Fight for Gold" put on by WKAR.

Indie Lens Pop-Up, presented by the Independent Television Service (ITVS), Independent Lens, and WKAR offered an advance screening of T-Rex: Her Fight for Gold, a film by filmmakers Drea Cooper, Zackary Canepari and Sue Jaye Johnson. The film is the coming-of-age story of boxing phenom Claressa Shields. The boxing star from Flint, Michigan, was just 17 years old when she won Olympic gold at the London games in 2012.

This special film screening took place at Berston Field House in Flint, home of the gym where T-Rex has trained since her first days in the ring, and where she teaches today.

WKAR's Al Martin reports from the event and dives into the roots of Shields' success in the ring.

WKAR has closed the gap left by the loss of federal funding. Because of you, trusted journalism, inspiring stories, and classical music remain freely available to everyone in mid-Michigan.
Now the work continues — your monthly gift helps maintain this success and keeps public media free for all.
