Former Massachusetts First Lady Ann Romney was in Jackson Monday night to urge local Republicans to vote for her husband Mitt next Tuesday. Mrs. Romney spoke to hundreds of people gathered for the Jackson County Lincoln Day Dinner.  Romney recounted when Massachusetts – with its largely Democratic electorate – voted for her husband as governor because voters believed he could repair the state’s ailing economy.  She added that now, it’s imperative to defeat President Barack Obama.

"He is taking this country in the wrong direction," Mrs. Romney said.  "And we have to know that somebody can actually win some independent voters, some women voters that might not vote for a Republican.  And I happen to think there’s only one person, and that’s Mitt.”

Recent polls suggest Romney’s main challenger, former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, has the lead going into the Michigan primary next Tuesday.
