WKAR Assistant News Director & EditorEli Newman is assistant news director and editor. He works with the WKAR news and digital content teams to facilitate the creation of meaningful and thought-provoking multimedia news content for WKAR Public Media.
Eli joined WKAR in September 2023.
Before joining WKAR, Eli spent seven years as a reporter for WDET, an NPR member station in Detroit, where he covered breaking news, politics and community affairs. His award-winning work has been recognized by the Public Media Journalists Association, the Michigan Associated Press Media Editors, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Society of Professional Journalists, Detroit Chapter.
Eli Newman has a bachelor’s degree in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Michigan.
