It looks like Michigan Republicans will hold their presidential primary on March 8th of next year.
The state Senate has sent the legislation to do that to Governor Rick Snyder.

Democrats will probably opt out, so the primary will only affect the race for the Republican nomination. Michigan Republicans have been bickering over when to put the primary so Michigan has the most influence possible.
State Senator Dave Robertson chairs the Senate Elections Committee.
“It puts us well-positioned, I think, to draw candidate attention, which was our intention from the get-go,” he says.
The March 8th date makes a Midwest regional GOP super-primary less likely, but Michigan will share a primary date with neighboring Ohio.
