Primary Election Day today

LANSING (MI) – LANSING, MI (WKAR) - Voters in Lansing go to the polls today to vote in a city-wide primary election. WKAR's Scott Pohl reports.

AUDIO: Mayor Virg Bernero is being challenged by three candidates, including city council member Carol Wood, Lansing Board of Education member and former Lansing city councilman Charles Ford, and musician Ben Hassenger. The top two vote-getters move on to the November general election.

With two at-large seats up for election, four candidates will advance. Incumbents Kathy Dunbar and Brian Jeffries are running for re-election. Former council member Harold Leeman Junior, Rina Risper, and Shelton Phillips are also on the ballot.

Four people are taking on incumbent Sandy Allen in the second ward, including Jonathan Solis, Tina Houghton, Bryan Deker and Jimmie Curran Senior. In ward four, Chris Lewless, Tom Truscott, Jessica Yorko, Cindy Redman and Dennis Burdick hope to replace Tim Kaltenbach. Two will advance in each ward.

One other election today has a proposal to renew a millage for the Clinton Area Transportation System in Clinton County.
