Mich. AG Cox endorses Schuette as his replacement

LANSING, MI – Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox says former Court of Appeals Judge Bill Schuette is the best candidate to replace him.

Schuette got the nod Monday over Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop, who's also hoping to win the GOP nomination when party activists meet in late August. Cox says Schuette has "the perfect mix of experience and commitment to public safety" for the job.

Schuette has locked up a number of endorsements from top Republicans, including former state GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis, Dick and Betsy DeVos and former Gov. John Engler.

Cox is a Republican running for governor. He has hit the 8-year term limit as attorney general.

Attorney Richard Bernstein and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton are vying for the Democratic nomination for attorney general.
