Cherry urges people to fill out, turn in census forms

By Rick Pluta

LANSING, MI – Lieutenant Governor John Cherry says it's critical that everyone in Michigan fill out and return the US Census forms. The forms should arrive in mailboxes next week.

The census results will determine whether Michigan loses a seat in Congress. And it will also determine how much money Michigan gets from the federal government for roads, schools, welfare, and job training. Cherry says the state could lose $10,000 in state funds for every person who isn't counted.

Cherry was named by Governor Granholm to lead the state's efforts to get as many people counted as possible. He is delivering the governor's weekly radio address while she is in California on a business trip.
