Autoworkers rally in front of Capitol

By Laura Weber, Michigan Public Radio Network

Lansing, MI – Lansing, MI (MPRN) - About 900 people followed the Reverend Jesse Jackson in a march on the state Capitol Monday.

Autoworkers, union members and lawmakers called for the federal government to adopt trade policies that will help keep manufacturing jobs in the U.S. Republican Congressman Mike Rogers: "If we are going to continue to be a great nation, we have to build things in the United States of America. And I will tell you this - there are things that we can do. I dropped a bill last week that told the car committee "you cannot use American tax payer money to outsource American jobs."

Rogers says GM provided the jobs and resources necessary to get the country through World War Two. He says Michigan's economy and security require it to restore that self-sufficiency.
