PITTSBURGH – PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Tigers' interleague schedule runs another two weeks and it continues tomorrow with the first of three in St. Louis.
Detroit is coming off a weekend series in which it lost two of three to the Pirates in Pittsburgh. The Bucs took yesterday's rubber game 6-3 as wildness once again got the better of Dontrelle Willis.
The one-time 20-game winner walked eight in 3 2-3 innings, gave up six hits and all six Pirates runs. Willis (1-4) threw only 43 of 88 pitches for strikes.
The Tigers got to within 6-3 on Don Kelly's two-run single in the seventh off Steven Jackson. Detroit finished with just five hits.
Detroit fans might not be blamed for thinking the Pittsburg Penguins were
rubbing it in when they showed off the Cup before yesterday's game between the Tigers and Pirates at PNC Park.
Coach Dan Bylsma, captain Sidney Crosby and 14 of his teammates were on hand for the pregame ceremony. Bill Guerin, the 38-year-old forward who won his first Cup in 14 years, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
