LANSING, MI – Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Cox says he wants to reduce taxes by $2 billion and cut spending in part by changing public employee benefits and renegotiating vendor contracts.
The Michigan attorney general told reporters Tuesday that revitalizing Michigan will involve "a lot of shared sacrifice."
The 60-page policy statement at www.MikeCox2010.com calls for more charter schools, increased funding for higher education, defined contribution pension plans for new teachers and tax incentives not just for wind and solar power but for clean coal and new nuclear plants.
Other GOP candidates in the race are Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Holland, state Sen. Tom George of Kalamazoo County and Huron County emergency medical technician Tim Rujan.
