DETROIT, MI – Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm wants the Republican-led state Senate to send her budget measures that already have been passed so she can use her veto power to shape the final spending plan.
The Democratic governor told reporters after a Midwestern Governors Association event Wednesday in Detroit that some budget measures "are not satisfactory."
She wants lawmakers to restore the Michigan Promise Grant college scholarship, boost health care programs and lessen the decrease in revenue sharing payments that go to local governments.
House Democrats have begun passing bills to raise money for those items.
Senate Republicans are holding onto six spending bills because they don't want the governor to veto all or part of them. The state is running on a monthlong interim budget.
