MI state Board of Ed plans emergency funding meeting

By Rick Pluta, Michigan Public Radio Network

LANSING, MI – The Michigan State Board of Education has called an emergency meeting to discuss the school funding crisis. The new K-12 education budget cuts schools by $165 for every student. Governor Granholm says more cuts are coming if the Legislature does not come up with a plan for funding schools. The board of education will meet Monday morning. Board President Kathleen Straus says the crisis is too urgent to wait for the board's regular meeting in two and a half weeks.
