LANSING, MI –
The president of the state Board of Education says she won't support a plan to compete for federal school-reform money until she sees more details.

Board President Kathleen Straus says part of why she's hesitant to sign off on the "Race To The Top" plan right now is because she was raised by a lawyer.
"My dad taught me never to sign anything without reading the whole thing," she says.
The full application for the federal money is not expected to be ready until late this weekend. That's two days before it needs to be turned into the federal government.
State schools Superintendent Michael Flanagan says he understand Straus' caution. But he says he thinks wide support from Michigan's school districts shows it's a good plan. However, only a handful of teachers' unions have given their support for the reform package.
