LANSING, MI –
A coalition of school officials says Michigan might be able to save money by a regional or statewide approach to negotiating labor contracts and providing health insurance for school employees.
Those are among the ideas pitched Tuesday by school administrators who have become frustrated with the state's education finance system.
Administrators want more money for their districts but say the state also should look at ways to trim spending.
The State Board of Education also was meeting Tuesday to begin working on what it says will be bipartisan recommendations to improve school finances.
Schools are absorbing a $165-per-student cut this academic year. Bigger reductions are likely in the fiscal year starting Oct. 1.
