The founder of a Michigan-based group that runs a school and clinic in Haiti is working to fly an emergency medical team to the island.
Thousands are feared dead after Tuesday afternoon's magnitude-7.0 quake.
The Grand Rapids-based Haiti Foundation Against Poverty runs a 140-student school and women's clinic in the Le Bours district of Port-au-Prince. It's unknown if any students or teachers were hurt or how much damage the buildings sustained.
Brooke Thurlow says her sister Mallery Thurlow hopes to get U.S. help to transport herself and a team of doctors to the area.
The group is asking for money donations, saying it can buy supplies in Haiti while the ability to bring goods to the quake zone is uncertain.
