2nd death as heat continues grip on lower Michigan

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, MI –

Authorities say the heat wave that pushed Michigan temperatures to 95 degrees has claimed a second life.

Grosse Pointe Farms police say 81-year-old Robert Gall was found lying on the floor of his home in the affluent Detroit suburb Wednesday.

Lt. Rich Rosati tells the Detroit Free Press the windows were shut with no air conditioning running.

On Sunday, 56-year-old Debra Calzadillas was found dead in Oakland County's Waterford Township next to the vehicle in which she'd been living.

Temperatures Wednesday hit 95 degrees at Troy and Ypsilanti and 94 at Detroit and Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Detroit's public schools are sending summer students home at noon Wednesday and Thursday because of the heat.
