Enbridge Energy is required to develop and implement a plan leading to long-term cleanup of areas in and around Marshall affected by an 800,000-gallon heavy crude oil leak.
Michigan's Department of Natural Resources and Environment says in a news release Monday that a limited administrative settlement reached with Enbridge also requires the company to assess the extent of oil remaining from the July pipeline spill.
Enbridge also is tasked with restoring impacted natural resources in the area.
The pipeline runs from Griffith, Ind., to Sarnia, Ontario. The spill polluted the Kalamazoo River and Talmadge Creek near Marshall, about 95 miles west of Detroit.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency oversaw an emergency cleanup after the spill.
