Police: Michigan shootings suspect commits suicide

By AP

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Police in Michigan say the daughter and an ex-girlfriend of a 34-year-old man who went on a deadly shooting spree in Grand Rapids are among the seven people killed.

An eight-hour manhunt and standoff ended late Thursday night when the suspect, Rodrick Shonte Dantzler, killed himself with a gunshot to the head.

The three people he took hostage at the end of his frantic flight from police were unharmed.

Police Chief Kevin Belk says there were some connections between Dantzler and his victims, but that it had been "quite some time" since he had any sort of relationship with his ex-girlfriend. He says the attack "doesn't make sense."

The manhunt for Dantzler began after four people were found dead in one home and three were discovered in another across town. Two of the dead were children.
