Hoops coach Tom Izzo, wife give$1M to MSU sports

By AP

EAST LANSING, MI –

Michigan State says men's basketball coach Tom Izzo and his wife Lupe have given the school $1 million.

The East Lansing school announced the gift Monday. It says most of the money will go to the Spartans' football program, with the rest divided among other projects.

In a statement, the Izzos say they've been "blessed to be a part of the Michigan State family for nearly 30 years."

The school says the gift will go toward scholarships and capital projects in the football program, as well as the George Webster Scholarship Fund, the Spartan Marching Band and Olympic sports at Michigan State.

Izzo came to Michigan State as an assistant in 1983 and became head coach in 1995.
