Work on the new video boards at Spartan Stadium took a step forward Thursday.

WKAR’s Scott Pohl reports that crews began testing the stadium’s new sound system.

You might expect that a sound system test at Spartan Stadium would mean the fight song blaring at you a few hundred times.

Alas, it was smooth jazz coming out of the speakers shortly before noon on Thursday.

MSU’s football stadium is getting two new video boards at the north end of the stadium, and an enormous new board replaces the former screen on the south end. It’s bigger than a basketball court stood up on its side. Workers began mounting a huge Spartan helmet logo on that scoreboard Thursday morning.

The $10-million project also includes a big upgrade to the Spartan Stadium sound system. Testing the new audio equipment is expected to last through Friday.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
