The investigation into former Congressman Thad McCotter’s reelection campaign has cost the state $27,0000
Attorney General Bill Schuette’s office says the money has been well-spent. Four McCotter staffers are facing charges related to a petition forging scandal. Schuette says he’s seen no evidence to suggest McCotter committed any crimes himself. But Attorney General spokesperson Joy Yearout says the investigation is still ongoing.
“As new evidence comes in, we’re reviewing it, and if we find anything that dictates the filing of additional charges, we won’t hesitate to do so,” she says.
Schuette says the $27,000 price tag reflects more than 400 hours of staff time spent on the case.
