CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
Title:Television Production Tech
Level:CT10
Working Title:Television Studio Coordinator

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Works directly with the Production Manager to plan, execute, and coordinate required production support for in-studio shows, events, and remote productions including staging, lighting, and set construction. Serves in a variety of in-studio production roles such as camera operator, jib operator, floor director, graphics, audio operator, and technical director. Work with producers, production manager, events coordinator, and operations manager to ensure successful productions. Use technical knowledge and experience to help train production interns in all aspects of production. Serve on remote productions in various roles as needed.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
STUDIO COORDINATION (40%)

  • Coordinate and execute staging of required elements for in-studio shows and events as well as remote productions.
  • Stage set pieces, design and execute lighting for set and talent
  • Assist in construction set pieces if necessary
  • Set production equipment including signal patching and troubleshooting as needed
  • Advise on productions to execute the creative vision
  • Supervise student interns and other production staff in studio to ensure safe practices

PRODUCTION SUPPORT (20%)

  • Serve in a variety of in-studio production roles such as camera operator, floor director, graphics, audio operator, and technical director.
  • Operate production equipment including cameras, graphic generator, audio consoles, light consoles, video switchers, and teleprompters.

TRAINER (20%)

  • Actively mentors and trains student interns, providing frequent opportunities for professional learning and growth; emphasizes retention as a means of increasing capacity and expertise of the team.  Fully leverages human resources and promote greater efficiency for productions.
  • Train student interns and staff in the following:
  • Production roles - camera operation, graphic recall, audio console operation, floor directing, and teleprompters.
  • Safe practices for rigging lighting instruments and set pieces
  • Lift operation
  • Proper set behavior and production support
  • Help production and operation manager supervise students in order to assure consistency in quantity and quality of work performed.
  • Leads by example; fosters a work environment that recognizes and rewards cross-functional collaboration and team-based efforts.  Celebrates current achievements and sets clear expectations for future success.  
  • Provides the structure and guidance necessary to promote a high-performance culture that meets the needs and expectations of a successful and diverse community. 

FIELD PRODUCTION SUPPORT (10%)

  • Serve in a variety of field production roles such as camera operator, audio operator, and lighting.
  • Work with producer to execute creative vision

PRODUCTION SUPPORT - MAINTENANCE (10%)

  • Maintain inventories on production equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain studio spaces for immediate use.
  • Repair lighting instruments and other equipment as possible.

RELATED DUTIES

  • Meet with external clients to advise on production support.
  • Attend job fairs to recruit student interns.
  • Attend workshops and professional clinics.
  • Assist in planning and directing events as necessary.
  • Aerial lift operation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direction is received from the Production Manager
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years of college, technical, vocational or business school in Telecommunications with coursework in television and film production; 1-3 years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in film and audio production, working with television equipment and lighting techniques; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Will require some nights and weekends
  • Negligible disagreeable working conditions. This job requires significant physical effort and involves lifting of over 75 pounds and climbing 26-75% of the time.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Three years or more of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in film and audio production, working with television equipment and lighting techniques; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and creative thinking,
  • Dynamic, accomplished, responsive and collaborative individual with the ability to think and act strategically;
  • Experience in camera jib operation
  • Knowledge of post-production workflows and media management from production to post
  • Knowledge of livestream productions and workflows
