Michiganders have more time to file their state and city income taxes.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed bipartisan bills Thursday that extend the 2021 city and state income tax filing and payment deadlines to May 17.In March, the Michigan Department of Treasury pushed the state filing deadline to mid-May, but changes to city income tax deadlines required state legislation.

Both bills say taxpayers won’t be subject to interest and penalties during the tax deadline extension periods.

Cities like Lansing and East Lansing had already moved their filing deadlines to June 1st.
