The Puerto Rican crested toad is endangered. At Lansing’s Potter Park Zoo, officials are involved in a project to help save the toad from extinction. The Puerto Rican crested toad is a native species of toad that cannot be found anywhere else.Potter Park Zoo veterinarian Dr. Tara Harrison and zookeeper Sara Pechtel assisted in the effort to raise tadpoles, and recently shipped 26,000 to Puerto Rico.

The toad is endangered because of habitat loss and an invasive species of toad that competes for resources.
