Join us for a discussion of this year's One Grand Read book selection: There’s Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension by Hanif Abdurraquib!

One Grand Read is a community reading initiative designed to bring people together through the power of a shared story. Our 2026 title selection is There’s Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension, by genre defying poet, essayist, cultural critic and memoirist Hanif Abdurraqib.

This fall, One Grand Read will feature a series of free community programs inspired by the book’s themes and opportunities to create and connect in the community through conversation. The 2026 program will culminate in a special visit from Hanif Abdurraquib on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., offering attendees the opportunity to hear directly from the author.

Every year, millions of eligible voters are unable to vote because of missed registration deadlines, outdated information, or other problems. On Voter Registration Day, Library staff and volunteers from the League of Women Voters, Lansing Area will be on hand to make the process easier. We’ll have registration information, materials, and public access computers available FREE to help you process your registration.

Tri-County Office on Aging provides Medicare and Medicaid education through the State Health Insurance Program (SHIP). SHIP provides free, unbiased Medicare and Medicaid education to individuals navigating Medicare. Certified counselors evaluate eligibility for programs aimed at saving money related to Part D drug costs, Medicare Part B premiums, as well as explain "extra benefits" affiliated with Medicare Advantage Plans.

Join us for a movement storytime featuring yoga style poses and breathing exercises! We'll read a story, try out traditional and nontraditional yoga poses, breathe deep, and groove to a song. Feel free to bring your own yoga mat or beach towel to sit on. After the storytime, we'll have time for free play with active toys.
